Pumice Stone Field
Waves of white rock
In Catamarca's Puna, the wind has carved pumice from ancient eruptions into shapes like frozen waves, white and pink. It is one of the strangest landscapes in the country.
What not to miss
- Walking among the formations at sunset
- The Carachi Pampa volcano and its lava field
- Laguna Grande and its flamingos, in season
Getting there
Visit on tours from El Peñón or Antofagasta de la Sierra, or from Fiambalá or Belén. The roads are high and unpaved, so a guide and a 4x4 are recommended.
